on snails and velcro

This (belated) unexpectedly cute item was created by our student worker, Jimi (pictured above). It occupied an honored place in the office until our boss mistook it for an actual usable piece of velcro and disassembled it. Snaily will live on in our hearts forever.

Link me up

Link is the hero of the Zelda games, and he never fails to be, well, cute. In the current Zelda, "Twilight Princess", he doesn't fail to win us over as he combats the forces of evil with slingshots, swords and more. Oh, and the kitten is cute, too.

I make the bunny appear, and then I want to eat it...

...and then I wave my magic wand and voila!...Thumper disappears. Oh wait, let me adjust my super cool 1950's eyeglasses, and smooth out my dapper magician's cape, and wipe the bunny fur off my cumberbund...

Find your inner rat

In the TMNT 2007 film, Splinter was voiced by the late Mako Iwamatsu. Splinter is portrayed as having grown more worried that his sons have split apart after the death of Shredder and calls them together again when a new enemy arises. Splinter is portrayed as a source of wisdom for his sons, but does indulge himself with a soap opera.

I think he's come back for his noon feeding.

Jaws in 30 seconds, re-enacted by bunnies.

"Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down to the pond and chasing bluegills and tommycocks. This shark, swallow you whole. No shakin', no tenderizin', down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing."

Life Aquatic

This is a nudibranch. It is a type of sea snail, and is carnivorous. There are many different types and colors of nudibranchs, and many are brightly colored and fantastic. Some are cute. This nudibranch is cute.

The word "nudibranch" comes from Latin nudus meaning "naked", and Greek brankhia meaning "gills". The name is appropriate since the dorids (infraclass Anthobranchia) breathe through a branchial plume of bushy extremities on their back, rather than using gills. By contrast, on the back of the aeolids in infraclass Cladobranchia there are brightly colored sets of tentacles called cerata.

Yearnin' for Yoda

Green skin, wrinkly forehead, wispy barely-there hair, bulgy eyes, serious (borderline grumpy) expression… on paper it seems impossible that a creature bearing this description could ever find its way to the Land of Cute. But thanks to his endearing personality, voice a la Frank Oz, and clever merchandising, Yoda has broken down all of the barriers and blazed a trail into the cute recesses of our hearts.
