In 1971, a cartoon character named Milton the Toaster was introduced to promote Pop-Tarts. William Schallert from "The Patty Duke Show" voiced him.[citation needed] The campaign ended when a commercial showed a child hugging the toaster, leading to complaints that children might imitate the commercial and burn themselves.
Read all about Pop-Tarts!!
This toaster is totally huggable. Pop Tarts are too, for that matter. Especially the S'mores ones.
ReplyDeleteI totally recognized him. Didn't he used to be on the package, too?
ReplyDeleteIf a kid hugged a toaster on TV today, the commercial would be pulled. It's all part of the USA's Freak-out package.
I hope this week's tribute to toasters will include something about "The Brave Little Toaster," one of my all-time favorite movies.
ReplyDeleteI never got pop-tarts as child. I only know Milton as a passing face of toaster I never got to be friends with.
